[ Holly & the New Butter ]

It's funny what kids will get excited about. When I told Holly I had bought some new butter she said "Oh goody! I can't wait to see the curl on top!" I was so touched by her excitment that I went ahead and opened it up for her.

I had forgotten the "butter curl" excitment, but after she mentioned it, it all came back to me. Anyone else feel the same?

[ Damn Bees ]

The stupid carpenter bees are chewing away a hole under one of our steps on the deck; hence the dust.

The other day I was reminded about how happy I am to be out of the diaper stage. Ahhhhh.

Holly's Field Day

Today was Holly's field day at school. The kids got to play all kinds of games. Adam got to be a field judge and Wesley and I cheered for all the kids. It was a beautiful day and so much fun!

Wesley's Gymnastic Performance

On Saturday we went to see Wesley perform all his gymnastic stunts at the Mercury Gymnastics Spring Fling event. He did a great job and was so happy to have his very first medal.

He really does well at gymnastics, I think because he has no fear and is willing to jump to the highest bar, swing from the highest rings and jump off the highest beam.

T-Ball

I feel like our family has graduated from "sweet little family hanging out" to "Hurry! We're going to be late, don't forget your glove! Crazy family." I knew the day would come, but I'm not sure I was ready.

Saturday Holly had her first ever t-ball game. Can it be that she's old enough to play t-ball? And to make my feelings even more official that we've reached a new chapter, Adam is one of the coaches. Not that having kids and raising little ones doesn't make you a parent, but there's something very "grown up" about being the "coach" and in charge of the team snacks.

Holly did a great job... glove on the right hand, hit the ball, ran the right way... all went well. I'm not sure she'll end up being a college softball player, but maybe coed softball like her mama.

Probably the best part of the game was watching Adam teach 10 little girls, "The Rainbows", how to play ball. He did a great job and has the perfect personality for the job - easy going and very patient. I foresee many years of him in this role, hopefully enjoying it a little more every year.

2 Games down, 8 more to go. It's going to be a fun season!

Bee Hunt

Ahh... Spring. I just love it! The warm weather, sunny sky, blooming trees and flowers, spring planting, what could "bee" better?

I was so excited to start planting my flowers last week. It was a beautiful day when I made my way to the back yard to begin some planting prep work. I was busy at work when I heard a bzzzz, bzzzz, bzzzz right by my ear. I quick sprang up to see what was whispering in my ear and found two ginormous bees buzzing around my head. I swatted and they came closer. So, like any good chicken, I ran away scared. I attempted my gardening 3 more times before I finally hit my breaking point. I got online and googled "carpenter bees" and found out all I needed to know. I went next door and borrowed my nice neighbors' net and emailed Adam to let him know that when he got home we wuz goin' to war with those little *&%$!!'s! He told me later that my email made him laugh out loud during a conference call. I saw no humor in it. These little annoying creatures were ruining my spring fun and I was ready to kill.

When Adam got home I handed over the net and sent him off to war (while I stayed safely inside the screened in porch). Adam turned out to be quite the hero; which was a surprise considering his rocky history with bees. He caught about 15 bees all together and gave the kids and I the honor of squishing their little bodies to pieces. I have to say that I've truly never enjoyed killing something more than I did those damn bees.

Adam filled all the holes in the porch (the little buggers chew away the wood and make a nest inside) so life is somewhat back to normal. I do believe I will be buying a net though.

Now... back to my beautiful flowers.:)

Right after I took this picture Wesley said the funniest thing. He was hunting bees with Daddy and as he was looking up he said "that damn bee." Adam and I about fell over laughing knowing that watching his mama fight all week with the bees had taught him more than he needed to know.
